  • The Best 5 Sneakers of 2021

2021 has been another crazy year for sneakers. All of our favorite brands stepped up to create another year of sneaker magic for us to enjoy so let's take a look back at the 5 best sneaker releases from this year. 5. Jordan 1 Low OG Neutral Grey The Jordan 1 Low OG Neutral Grey continues the Jordan 1s popularity. A white upper with a complimentary grey durabuck swoosh and heel tab creates a subtle but powerful shoe. The OG cut of the shoe, with a slimmer tongue and less ankle padding makes this shoe easy and seamless to wear with a variety of outfits and styles. This release came in full family sizes so everyone is able to rock this beautiful sneaker. 4. Nike Dunk Low White Black 2021' The Nike shows no signs of slowing down when it comes their Dunks. In another year filled to the brim with Dunks, the simple White Black color way has reigned supreme. This sneaker retails for only $100-110 and while the quality control often leaves a lot to be desired, something is to be said about the chokehold this shoe has had on sneakerheads. You are likely to see this pair on feet everywhere you go. Its popularity has reached far beyond the realm of traditional sneakerheads and provided an easy access point to enter the sneaker culture. A shoe steeped in such history as the Nike Dunk deserves it roses and based of Nike’s 2022 preview, it looks like it will continue its reign well into the new year. 3. Air Jordan 11 Cool Grey 2021' After long last, the wait for the Air Jordan 11 Cool Grey is finally over. It has not been seen since 2010 and this 2021 retro is a welcome return among sneakerheads. Despite not being an original color way, the Cool Grey is one of the most popular color ways across the sneaker silhouettes but especially on the Jordan 11. We see the return of the high cut patent leather that began with the 2016 Space Jam, and ice blue outsole, and a soft durabuck upper completes the look. The Jordan 11’s holiday release is always a fantastic time but the return of the Cool Grey 11 makes this year extra special. We hope you were able to pick up a pair this holiday season! 2. Air Jordan 2 Low Off-White The Air Jordan 2 is often forgotten by sneakerheads. Well that was the case until Virgil Abloh redesigned the Jordan 2 with another Off-White makeover of a classic silhouette. The most striking feature of the shoe is midsole. Inspired by the aging, cracking and crumbling of the original Jordan 2s, this reimagined shoe flaunts an artificially yellowed and crumbled midsole sealed with translucent rubber. The shoe is further completed with Micheal Jordan’s signature on the side paneling and the iconic Off-White hang tag. Virgil Abloh recently passed this November after fighting a private battle with cancer but his works in all realms of art and design will continue to serve as inspiration for generations to come. 1. Air Jordan 3 A Ma Maniere With almost unanimous consensus across the sneaker community, the Air Jordan 3 A Ma Maniere has been crowned 2021’s Sneaker of the Year. James Whitner, the owner of the famous luxury boutique A Ma Maniere, was selected to design his own Jordan 3. This women’s exclusive sneaker was crafted with premium materials and designed with goal of celebrating women. The shoe is constructed neutral tones over an extremely soft quilted silk sock liner, white tumbled leather uppers, suede toe and heel counters. The A Ma Maniere logo embroidered on the left foot’s tongue completes this iconic sneakers look. A Ma Maniere and Jordan Brand were able to provide us with an extremely well designed shoe that seamlessly combines elements of luxury with basketball and sneaker culture. Thank you for checking out our top 5 Sneakers for 2021 and let us know how your list stacks up against ours in the comments below! We hope you were able to grab your favorite pairs from 2021 and going forward into 2022. Happy New Years to all!

  • Top 5 Sneakers of 2020

2020 is most likely a year we would all like to forget and never remember. However, the sneaker world has had some memorable releases that are worth revisiting. We at Legit Laces have compiled our list of the Top 5 Sneakers of 2020. Honorary Mention: Air Jordan 4 Fire Red (2020) After a little over 30 years, Jordan Brand finally blessed us with the Air Jordan 4 Retro Fire Red. The Fire Red was one of the original colorways played in by Michael Jordan in 1989. This nostalgia filled pair returns to its roots with the “Nike Air” branded heel tabs and hang tag. White tumbled leather across the entire upper of the sneaker makes sure that the contrasting red lining, outsole and supporting wings pop. This is a must have for any collector whether they were around for the original release or not. 5. Adidas Yeezy Foam RNNR Ararat The collaboration between Adidas and Kanye West continues to go strongly. We have seen several color ways of the familiar 350 V2 model release but Kanye continues to push the envelope with the Foam RNNR (Runner). The shoe is comprised of a single piece of harvested algae with Adidas EVA materials. The striking appearance with several holes across the sides and upper is designed with comfort and breathability in mind. Arguably one of the most unique and comfortable Yeezy models to date and retailing at only $75. 4. Air Jordan 1 Dark Mocha The Air Jordan 1 has reigned supreme for the last few years in the sneaker industry. The silhouette's dominance continues with the Air Jordan 1 Dark Mocha being one of the most hyped shoes to release in 2020. Featuring, black nubuck leather along the front of the shoe and a mocha brown suede heel and ankle. This pair’s popularity has caused the iconic “Air Jordan 1 Travis Scott” to be jokingly referred to as a Mocha custom. Since release, the fever pitch popularity around this shoe has only continued to explode. 3. Nike SB Dunk Low Travis Scott 2020 has been another great year for Travis Scott. While we saw much more merchandise than shoes this year, he still dominates the market. The artist’s genuine love for the silhouette and his Dunk collaboration have almost single handedly reignited the Dunk craze. His pair features, a paisley tear away print across the paneling, thick rope laces, and Cactus Jack branding on the tongue tag. The Dunk’s resurgence in popularity dubbed the “Travis Scott Effect”, has caused prices for pairs from the early 2000s to see a dramatic rise in resale price. 2. Air Jordan 1 (High & Low) Dior The collaboration between Jordan Brand and the French luxury brand Dior has set a remarkable new precedent. While a handful of sneaker and luxury brands have collaborated in the past, none have made such a significant impact as the Dior Jordan 1 High and Low. These extremely limited Jordan 1s retailed for a whopping $2,000 USD and feature, a Dior monogram swoosh on the side paneling, a clear blue outsole with Dior branding and a “Dior Nike Air” tongue tag. This sneaker opens the door to Jordan Brand collaborating with other luxury brands in (hopefully) the near future. 1. Nike Kobe 6 Protro Grinch (2020) Unfortunately, 2020 began with the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gigi Bryant in a helicopter crash in Calabasas California. This untimely accident rocked the entire world. The public mourned the loss of an icon and arguably the world’s greatest basketball player to ever play the game. Given his passing, the sneaker world paid extra attention to every Kobe shoe release. Originally releasing in 2010, the Kobe line gave us one of the best Christmas gifts of all with the Nike Kobe 6 Protro Grinch 2020. We hope that Nike makes good on Vanessa Bryant’s promise that they will be soon available to any and all who may want to grab this sentimental pair. As previously mentioned, 2020 was an absolute mess in almost every sense of the word. However, sneaker heads around the world were able to find some silver linings in a few releases through all of the craziness. Let us know what your #1 sneaker of the year is and good luck copping in 2021.

  • A Celebration of the Air Max 1

How one man changed the sneaker industry forever... The first in a long line of Air Max sneakers, the Air Max 1 was designed by Tinker Hatfield, and originally released in 1987. The sneakers featured red, grey, and white color blocking that has since become a classic. Like many of Tinker’s designs, the Air Max 1 features an encapsulated Air-Sole unit in the heel and the iconic “Nike Air” branding. Today, March 26, 2020 is the 33rd year of the annual “Air Max Day” and what is a better way to appreciate this iconic sneaker than by going back and looking at its humble origin. Hatfield was first hired at Nike in 1981 as an architect designing the buildings on the Nike Oregon campus. In 1985, Tinker began to design sneakers at Nike’s request. On a trip to Paris, Hatfield was struck by the architecture of the Centre Georges Pompidou. Unlike other buildings, the Centre exposed all of its functional/structural elements for everyone to see. An inspired Hatfield rushed to his preliminary designs and added an exposed Air unit on the sneakers mid-sole. In 2020 it may seem ridiculous that people actually pushed back against this move, especially considering that the Nike Air Vapormax features an Air unit as the entire sole of the sneaker. At the time, other Nike executives had thought that Hatfield pushed the design to far. They worried the sneaker would look and feel structurally weak, but Hatfield and a few other people pushed ahead anyway. Nike finally released the sneaker on March 26, 1987 and was featured in Nike’s first television ad. The lasting impact this sneaker would have across the globe was unimaginable at the time of its release. Tinker Hatfield is 67 years old, and still helps design sneakers for Nike and Jordan Brand and has since become one of the most influential sneaker designers of all time. The Air Max line has continued to flourish in the last 33 years with the addition of insanely popular models such as the Air Max 90, Air Max 97, Air Max Vapormax and several others. Nike continues to celebrate every year with an annual Air Max day by releasing extremely sought-after colorways or new Air Max innovations. Have a great Air Max Day and remember to wear your air!
